I love reading photographers stories on how they started out. Everyone's got their own story of how photography has been woven into their past. I love it!
Many photographers picked up their dad's old school cam and started shooting way back when they were still in grade school, all the while I was going to car shows with my dad, drooling over expensive Italian cars!
As a kid, I was always very open minded and dabbled in random hobbies. Short story writing (plays, poems and songs too!), learning foreign languages (I went to Germany for a year and sang in a Spanish choir!), reading science fiction novels and watching Star Trek the new generation;
Though my fascination with capturing the moment stemmed from ancient ruins, fancy doors, and generally anything that looks a bazillion years old.
When it comes to ancient doors, I'm like the little kid who runs up to every store window and says "mommy can I have this?" except I say "honey can you take my picture next to this AMAZING door" haha
My family (and my hubby's family) come from Europe, so growing up I spent many summers with my parents visiting family in Poland, Germany and Switzerland. My dad would rent a car and we'd drive around the winding mountains to old castle ruins or castles with guided tours.
This is a view from one of the castles we visited!
Most of the towns I've seen (as well as in Prague, my husband Mike's homeland) have stunning architecture! It's really tough to not stop every minute as your walking and take pictures!
Speaking of Prague, I was pleasantly surprised to find out they have their own wine and vineyards!
So when my husband I first met, he knew I really wanted my own dslr so I could begin documenting the beautiful things I saw everywhere we went. Florida doesn't have much of any architecture, especially not southern Florida, but the beautiful and unique people of all nationalities make up for that!
When my Mike proposed to me, he did it with an engagement ring and a dslr :)
Over the last three years I've been learning tons about dslrs!
It's also been a trial and error path along the way, photographing my friends and family and seeing what works and what styles I like. I am still learning so much and have had great mentors along the way who've given me brilliant pointers, and I'm still trying to discover what I love shooting most.
I've spent the last few months on the other end of the spectrum, working with photoshop and other photo editing software, and am just craving to get my hands on a new camera.
I have been wanting to upgrade to my next camera for sometime now and have been on the fence between Nikon and Canon for many months now.
But finally I think I have come to a decision! Now its just time to save some bucks, and plan wisely on where to buy it. I even have ideas for lenses.
I can't wait for the time to come to execute my plan. It will be soon and I am so excited!!
Stay tuned, and wait for new shots to be posted with my upgrade!
